Set 1 includes:
Unlock the Magic of Short and Long Vowels: Dive into the vibrant world of vowels with our eye-catching flashcards. Each card showcases a different vowel, accompanied by memorable illustrations and clear, easy-to-understand examples. From the short "a" in "apple" to the long "o" in "open," children will quickly master the diverse sounds of these essential letters.
Conquer Consonant Blends: Next up, it's time to tackle consonant blends like a true phonics champion! Our discovery deck introduce blends such as "bl," "cr," and "st" in engaging ways that stick in young minds. With colorful visuals and playful examples, children will learn to recognize and pronounce blends with confidence.
Discover Digraph Delights: Prepare to be amazed by the power of digraphs! Our discovery deck spotlight dynamic duos like "sh," "ch," and "th," demonstrating how these letter combinations create unique sounds in words. With hands-on activities and interactive games, children will unravel the mystery of digraphs in no time.
The front of the card shows an anchor picture that the sound the letter(s) makes.
The back of the card shows three key words that contain the sound made by the letter(s).
SUGGESTED GAMES:
Vowel Treasure Hunt: Hide the vowel flashcards around the room or outdoors, then challenge children to find and identify each one. As they locate the cards, encourage them to say the vowel sound aloud and think of words that contain it.
Blends: Hear & Find: Shuffle the blend flashcards and spread them on a surface. Say the sound that the blend makes and challenge children to be the first to identify the letters that make that sound. You can also say a word that contains the blend and challenge students to find the discovery deck card with the same sound.
Digraph Detective Relay: Divide players into teams and place the digraph flashcards at one end of the room. At the other end, set up a bucket or container for each team. One player from each team races to the digraph cards, grabs one, and races back to their team to say a word containing that digraph. If correct, they place the card in their team's bucket and tag the next player to go.
Phonics Pictionary: Split players into pairs or small groups. One player draws a card from the deck and silently acts out a word containing the phonics element on the card (vowel, blend, or digraph), while the other players guess the word. For example, if the card shows the blend "sl," the drawer might pantomime slipping on a banana peel. Rotate turns, and keep the laughter rolling as teams race against the clock to guess as many phonics elements as possible!
Phonics Story Builders: Players take turns drawing a discovery deck card and using the phonics element on the card to start a story. Each player adds a sentence to the story, incorporating a word that contains the highlighted phonics element. The story continues to evolve, getting sillier and more imaginative with each turn!
Phonics Bingo: Create Bingo cards with various words containing phonics elements instead of numbers. Divide players into teams and provide each team with a Bingo card. Place the discovery deck face down in a pile. Choose a card and say the sound only. Students will have to cover the corresponding letter(s) on the card using their phonics knowledge.
With the Phonics Discovery Deck and these engaging learning games, children will embark on a phonics adventure like never before, building essential reading skills while having a blast along the way!
Each card is 4 x 6 inches.
